Segment 8—Aids to Meditation Practice

Meditation, from the Sanskrit dhyāna, means sustained attention or inward absorption; a steady flow of awareness toward a single point.

20. When one turns one’s vision inward, the inner eye sees the blissful reality of Supreme Consciousness. Then, God’s grace descends.


21. One-pointed concentration increases willpower and skill, and causes success in all endeavors.


22. The meditator who realizes Supreme bliss has control, always, over physical, verbal, and mental tendencies.


1. The practices of the discipline of meditation involves the development of truth, justice, peace, and love.


5. Abstain from the tenfold errors: the three physical, the four verbal, and the three mental. Physical errors are: injury to life, adulterous desire, and theft. Verbal errors are: misleading statements, cruel speech, jealous talk, and lying. The mental errors are: greed, envy, and the denial of the reality of God.


18. When discernment is keen and mental waves are still, and attention is one-pointed—as a result of contemplating Pure Consciousness—Divine splendor is manifested, burning away all evil and revealing joy.


32. When one attains samādhi, the soul is clearly perceived as the Supreme light. Then, the soul knows itself to be self-luminous.
